Shortly upon hearing the harsh rattling call, I saw this male belted kingfisher flying to perch on a wooden structure at the harbor edge. The crest on his head is in disarray because of the wind. He stayed for a few minutes turning his head this way and that before flying off. Belted kingfishers are common year-round residents in this part of Oregon.
