Daytime Last Quarter Moon
On 10/03/2026 07:59 am by Mandy Daniels | Website | Derbyshire, UK
Light from the sky is maximally polarised 90°away from the Sun, so adding a Polaroid between the telescope and camera has the most effect around the time of the quarter Moon and dramatically darkness the sky whilst increasing contrast on the lunar surface, leaving the Moon brighter against the sky. It is this similar brightness of the Moon and sky coupled with the resultant lack of contrast that can make the daytime Moon difficult to spot.
