The Dumbbell Nebula
On 07/17/2026 09:45 pm by Catherine Hyde | Website | Cambria, California, USA.
This is M27, the Dumbbell Nebula in Vulpecula. It's about 140 (300-second) images, stacked. I took them over two nights.
A StellarVue 152mm refractor, Nikon D810A camera, Astrophysics Mach2 Tracking Mount, Guiding System.
I process the stars separately in PixInsight, and used masked stretch to try to deal with the dynamic range in this target. I wanted to bring out the faint outer shell as much as possible, but it is very hard to do that without blowing out the bright core.
