Full Flower Moon Setting on 1st May.
On 05/01/2026 05:27 am by Peter Lowenstein | Website | Mutare, Zimbabwe
Clear skies in the early morning on 1st May provided a good view of the Full ‘Flower’ Moon setting through a thin layer of cloud on the horizon behind Chikanga Township to the WSW of Mutare between 5.27 and 5.31 am. This was an exceptionally distant moon (a micromoon) in a far part of its orbit around earth. May is also unusual in there are two Full Moons with a second one on the 31st - more details at https://earthsky.org/moon-phases/may-full-moon/ .
Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset and manual exposure modes.
Compilation of montage of four images taken between 5.27 and 5.31 am. The last two are cropped video frame screen captures.
