Moonrise of the eclipsed Moon on 7 September 2025 from Urla, Izmir, Türkiye

The Moon rose from behind the distant hills overlooking the Bay of Izmir as the umbral eclipse had just started. There was a howling wind and extreme atmospheric turbulence that made focusing difficult. The Moon was almost exactly at perigee, which made it barely fit into the camera sensor area. However, the event was quite spectacular as the Moon had barely the time to appear before it disappeared into the shadow of the Earth under completely clear skies. One of the most memorable lunar eclipses of recent memory.

Meade ETX-90, equatorial mount, no tracking. Prime focus, Canon 500D.

The CR2 file was converted to RGB 8 bit JPG with CR2converter. No other processing was applied. No image calibration was executed.
