Juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk
On 09/03/2025 04:09 pm by Cecille Kennedy | Depoe Bay, Oregon
Red-shouldered hawks are not common in the area so it was surprising to see a juvenile one perched high up on the alder tree today. He stayed turning his head this way and that for a few minutes then suddenly flew off. Red-shouldered hawks typically select high perches to patiently watch for small prey like frogs, snakes, or mice before diving down for a capture.
