Sensational Spiral During the Night of the Perseids

In retirement, I'm an usher for the Baltimore Orioles. Returning home after Tuesday night's game, I saw this from my doorstep. Watched it for about five minutes as it faded and descended in the northwestern sky. Figured it was the product of a rocket launch. It was at once both bizarre and beautiful. I have been an amateur astronomer for almost 60 years, and have never seen anything like it.
