Veil Nebula

On 07/07/2025 01:00 am by Tom Cofer | Website | Lakewood Ranch Florida

This tangled tapestry of cosmic filaments is the Veil Nebula, the colorful wreckage of a star that exploded thousands of years ago. I combined narrowband hydrogen and oxygen data with RGB color to bring out both the subtle structure and vibrant contrast. The red and blue wisps are actually shockwaves plowing through space at over a million miles per hour — space is not as quiet as it looks! If you stare long enough, it almost feels like the universe is showing off just a little.
