Salmonberry Flower
On 03/25/2025 04:17 pm by Cecille Kennedy | Depoe Bay, Oregon
The salmonberries are blooming. The small deep pink flowers about 1.5 inches (3.8 centimeters) in diameter are quite attractive. Hummingbirds and bees like them for their pollen and nectar. When the berries ripen they are edible to humans. Actually the flowers are also edible and can be used to garnish salads and desserts
The Salish tribe consider salmonberries the harbinger of good things to come as they mark the beginning of berry season, and the season of plenty.
I'm happy to see these flowers along the nature trail.
