Cloud Lava
On 03/17/2025 07:12 am by Christoph Stopka | Website | Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colorado
While the West of the USA is being hammered by nasty spring storms with snow storms and intense winds of 90+MPH, there is actually also a bright side to this Weather Madness: These crazy storms are creating beautiful cloud formations and occasionally some stunning light effects. The scene in the attached image happened in right at the time of sunrise, with thick clouds shrouding the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (part of the Southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado. But somehow a few rays of the rising sun must have been able to find a hole in the vapor mass, illuminating the tip of a funky cloud which was seemingly stretching towards the stratosphere, literally aglow in superbright orange sunlight, resembling more the sudden eruption of molten lava, than a cloud! And if you blinked you would have missed Nature’s little magic show: The entire, incredibly beautiful scene lasted less than 30 seconds, before the clouds closed the curtain thoroughly. But I was very lucky and got my “magic moment”, which I would like to share with you. Please enjoy!
