Incredible Volcanic Sunset Crepuscular Rays.
During the evenings on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th March clear skies and excellent visibility following clearance of cloud and rain provided uninterrupted views of two of the most intense recent Volcanic Sunset Crepuscular Ray displays to be seen since the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga Volcano in January 2022! This indicates that there must still be patches of sufficiently dense volcanic aerosols lingering in the stratosphere to produce such spectacular optical effects. Many photographs were taken to record these two events and enable minute-by-minute comparisons to be made of the incredible displays. A selection of these is presented in the accompanying multi-image montage.

Compilation of multi-image montage with selection of 6 photographs taken between 6.25 and 6.30 pm on the 5th and 6 photographs taken between 6.25 and 6.31 pm on the 6th March.
