Lake Cave, Cayman Crystal Caves

The Cayman Crystal Caves, situated in a tropical forest, have developed over a period of millions of years. Fossilized remnants of shells and animal life within the caves provide evidence that the mass encompassing the caves was formerly submerged beneath the sea. Over time, as sea levels fluctuated and land rose, rooms formed through water erosion, ultimately giving rise to the caves. Within these amazing caves, spectacular stalagmite and stalactite crystal structures began to form as rainwater, dripping through the limestone ceiling of the caves, deposited calcium over the slow passage of time. The caves continue to evolve to this day.
The Lake Cave takes its name from its spectacular bright blue subterranean lake.
