Epsilon Perseids (SPE) Meteor

On 09/08/2024 04:39 am by Tameem Altameemi| Ras Al Khaimah Mountains - UAE

While I was out practicing my hobby of astrophotography last week in the mountains of the eastern regions of the United Arab Emirates, I noticed an unusual meteor shower that night. The next day, I decided to point the camera towards the eastern horizon after midnight, and I captured this meteor, which I did not notice until I reviewed the pictures through the camera. Perhaps I was busy arranging my things to leave the place. Then I looked for the source of these meteors and learned that they are called Epsilon Perseids (SPE) Meteor, which are not well-known and the average rainfall is 8 meteors per hour in the best of circumstances.

The September Epsilon Perseids will produce up to 8 meteors per hour during the peak of activity on September 9.

Also don't confuse this meteor shower with the famous August Perseids! Unlike the August Perseids, the September Epsilon Perseids are not caused by the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. Presumably, the parent body of the Epsilon Perseid meteors is an unknown long-period comet. Radiating from a point near the star Epsilon Persei in central Perseus, these swift meteors enter the Earth’s atmosphere at a velocity of 64 km/s.
