Damselfly

On 05/25/2024 04:23 pm by Cecille Kennedy| Lincoln City, Oregon

A beautiful delicate damselfly, one of at least a dozen flying around the plants by the river. Being tiny and delicate, it's so easy to miss them so I'm glad I happened to notice.

I read that damselflies are natural control agents, an example is that they eat mosquitoes, flies and such. They also play a role in pollination by transferring pollen between flowers as they feed on nectar. Their presence can be used to indicate the health of freshwater ecosystems since they don't go near polluted waters.
