I had planned for months to take images of the eclipse from my backyard in Dallas, Texas, but then it turned out that on the 14th my granddaughter Harper was showing her rabbits at the livestock show at the State Fair of Texas. I obviously couldn't miss that so I set up my equipment to capture the eclipse sequence on automatic (I posted a shot here of the results from that the other day) and headed to Fair Park. As we had a lot of time waiting for when it was her turn for judging, we wandered around the fair grounds watching the eclipse*, watching people watch the eclipse* and looking for interesting subjects to capture along with the eclipse. This is Big Tex, the icon of the State Fair of Texas. It's an annual routine for lots of folks to get their picture taken in front of Big Tex so this year it was the Sun and Moon's turn. :-)

On a side note, my Dad grew up in a little East Texas town called Kerens and Big Tex was originally a Santa Claus erected in the town square in 1949. He was later bought and re-created at the State Fair as Big Tex in 1952.

*We had taken our own eclipse glasses but thankfully groups like the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas were giving them away for free so lots of people at the fair that day were able to enjoy the eclipse safely
