A large, old Joshua Tree located along the Mojave Desert Joshua Tree Scenic Byway in Southwestern Utah. Not actually a tree but a Yucca brevifolia, commonly called a Joshua tree said to have been given this name by a group of Mormon settlers crossing the Mojave Desert in the mid-1800's: The tree's role in guiding them through the desert combined with its unique shape reminded them of a biblical story in which Joshua keeps his hands reached out for an extended period of time to enable the Israelites in their conquest of Canaan.
I spent the weekend in the Upper Mojave Desert hiking and enjoying some near 70F degree weather for a few days.
