Venus, Mercury and Elnath Setting.
Here is a beautiful still image to accompany a x 60 speed video animation (to be posted as a comment) which shows Venus and Mercury, still quite far apart on the 20th May, setting in the vicinity of a rising band of sunset colored cloud with the bright star Elnath disappearing behind Transmitter Hill. This is one of a sequence of 120 still images taken between 5.37 and 5.56 pm. Mercury, which is the lower and smaller planet, was not visible to the naked eye and had to be enhanced in brightness to appear. This is due to it being close to the Sun with less than an hour between Sunset and Mercury disappearing below the horizon. Elnath is a blue-giant star which is currently close to Venus.
