Spectacular Sunset after Cold and Rain
An almost cloudless sky and crystal clear air following a two day spell unusually cold and rainy weather provided a brilliant local sunset followed by a spectacular yellow and the magenta twilight arch caused by the presence of stratospheric aerosols derived from distant volcanic eruptions and extensive forest fires. These have been producing widespread magenta sunsets in the northern hemisphere over the past two weeks and this is the first time conditions have been favourable for one to be seen here.
