Our star has not been very active lately, but you get a sense of it's dynamic character if you observe it thru a Hydrogen-alpha filter on a daily basis.
This ball of gas is fusing hydrogen into helium, which gives us the warmth to sustain life on Earth. Sadly, all things must pass. In 5 billion years there will be no hydrogen left to fuse. Then all of Earth will be like Buffalo, N. Y. in January. My goodness!
