The Priceless Gift of a Crimson Goodbye

On 10/29/2026 05:45 pm by Jelieta Walinski Ph.D | Website | Desert bloom Observatory, AZ, USA

As the October sun descended beyond the horizon, the sky unfolded into a magnificent display of crimson, painting the evening with the quiet brilliance of nature. Silhouetted tree branches stretched across the scene like an intricate natural frame, embracing the backyard of Desert Bloom Observatory as though inviting us to pause and admire the beauty unfolding before us.

A sunset is more than the closing chapter of a day. It is a gentle reminder that even endings can be beautiful, and that nature has a remarkable way of turning ordinary moments into extraordinary experiences.

The brilliant red hues emerge as sunlight travels through a greater thickness of Earth's atmosphere. Shorter blue wavelengths scatter more readily, allowing the longer red and orange wavelengths to dominate the colors we see near the horizon. What appears to be a simple evening spectacle is, in fact, a beautiful demonstration of atmospheric optics.

And perhaps the most wonderful thing about this experience is that it costs absolutely nothing. No reservation, no admission ticket, no expensive equipment—just the willingness to step outside, look toward the horizon, and appreciate what the universe freely offers.

Sometimes, the greatest luxuries in life are not things we can buy. They are moments we choose to notice.

**The best things in life are free. All we have to do is step outside and watch the sunset.**
