Moon in the Beehive Cluster with Mars above
On 10/05/2026 04:30 am by Catherine Hyde | Website | Cambria, CA USA
This is the moon, almost literally in the Beehive Cluster (M44). Shining above it is Mars.
This was taken with my very smallest telescope, a little Askar135. The camera was a Nikon D810A, and I had all of this on an Astro-Physics Mach2 tracking mount.
I took this at two different lengths of exposure, one that was better for the moon and one that was better for the stars. And I combined them in Photoshop to make one image that didn't blow out the moon but allowed the stars to show up.
