The Elephants Trunk

IC1396 (The Elephants Trunk) is a very large gas and dust nebula in Cepheus. Due to the 1231mm focal length of the telescope and the APSC sized sensor, I focused on the unique dark structure that gives this nebula its nickname. The frame is dotted all over by large globules of dust causing what look like holes in the image and they are beautifully framed by the bright glowing gas behind. The data was collected over multiple nights focusing heavily on the Oiii and Sii.

Processed in Pixinsight ... This is pretty minimally processed due to quite a lot of data. It's is a straight combination of Ha to Red, Sii to Green and Oiii to Blue with no weighting of the colors.
