Full "Harvest"Moon

Is the Harvest Moon really bigger than a normal full Moon? Well, this year it certainly was, as it was also a Supermoon. But, in general, no, it is just a regular Moon, looking bigger because we see it close to the horizon and have familiar objects to compare it with. As it rises and moves away from those objects it will appear to shrink.

This image of the Moon was acquired about an hour and fifty minutes after it was officially full and, only if you look very carefully around the terminator at the lower right can you see evidence of the evening shadows begining to creep across.
