Montage of Venus-Spica Conjunction 2nd September, 6.04-6.16 pm

The planet Venus has been appearing high in the sky in the Virgo Constellation to the West of Mutare an hour after sunset. For the first two days of September, it has been shining brilliantly alongside the brightest star of the constellation – Spica, as shown in the accompanying photographs. Another tiny star L-Vir can just be distinguished above Venus in the four fading sunset twilight views. Smoke haze is now beginning to accumulate close to the sunset horizon but visibility was still good enough higher up to observe the conjunction.
