According to Andrew Young from San Diego State Astronomy Department This was at the tail end of of a 2 week heat dome siting over the Western United States . Cooler drier air from the west “helped to create these stacks of sheets and layers of thermal inversion” and the “ horizontal layers across the disk of the sun” which helped to create bright green color. I feel fortunate to have seen it , capture it and have Mr. Young ask to use the image on his world renowned Web Page.
