A Golden Corona Eclipse

Rather than pursuing an extreme close-up of the Sun, my intention was to capture the visual complexity of totality: the delicate structure of the solar corona, its extended streamers and the contrasting red prominence emerging from behind the Moon, while preserving the profound darkness of the lunar disk.

The final image was constructed from a seven-exposure bracket spanning 19.3 stops of dynamic range, from −12 EV to +7.3 EV, captured manually during totality.

Because the camera was operated manually and without automated tracking, the individual frames were manually aligned afterwards to compensate for the apparent movement of the Sun between exposures. The final image was then assembled to recover the wide dynamic range between the brightest regions of the corona and the much fainter outer structures.
