Eclipsed sun setting behind Lisbon's 25 de Abril bridge
On 08/12/2026 08:12 pm by Nico Trinkhaus | Website | Almada (Lisbon), Portugal
The partial solar eclipse setting behind the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge in Lisbon, Portugal, in the final minutes of the eclipse. In Lisbon the eclipse ran into sunset, so I worked out the position in advance: from Praia das Lavadeiras in Almada, across the Tagus from the city, the still-eclipsed sun came down right on top of the bridge span, framed between the deck and the suspension cables, barely three degrees above the horizon. Taken at 20:12 local time (19:12 UT). The remaining lunar bite is visible on the lower left of the solar disk.
