Lotus And Flame Skimmer

Pink lotus among large pads, beside it Flame Skimmer dragonfly that just landed on a bud. Flame Skimmers are native to the western United States. Adults like the vibrant red orange male in the photo feed on mosquitoes, flies, moths and small butterflies. At midmorning and onwards the dragonflies fly among the lotus, lilies and other vegetation on the riparian pond at Bruce Starker Arts Park and Natural Area.
