Monarch Chrysalis

My milkweed brings the monarchs to the yard! My back yard is a certified Monarch Waystation, so it is packed with native pollinator plants, including milkweed (the essential host plant for monarch larvae). Every summer, I am fortunate enough to witness their complete metamorphosis—from tiny egg to voracious caterpillar to jewel-like chrysalis to magnificent butterfly—right in my own garden. I spotted this gorgeous jade-green chrysalis with golden flecks resting in the morning dew. How exciting! If you're looking to support local pollinators, including the Monarch Butterfly, planting native milkweed is a great place to start!
