Nature’s Warning Sign

You know that black bird with the bright red shoulders you always see perched on cattails? That’s a red winged blackbird, and those red patches are basically nature’s version of a warning sign.

Males flash them to defend their territory and attract females, then can actually hide them when they don’t want to look aggressive.

They’re fearless too, they’ll dive bomb hawks, dogs, and even people if you get too close to their nests.

Even crazier, after breeding season they gather in massive flocks that can number in the hundreds of thousands, turning the sky into a moving cloud. Tiny bird, huge personality. 🖤❤️
