Two moons redux TT July 17

The 1st photo was shot on my driveway before 6pm when I saw the brilliant crescent moon and Venus. The 2nd photo was shot after 7pm, past twilight time. But the moon
had dropped a lot so I drove to a spot nearby.

Firstly I had focused the lens at Venus taking care to reduce the severe chromatic aberration of the lens. A sign of "in-focus" is the spikes showing.

In the 1st photo, 1/25 second (ISO 100) was too bright for the crescent but too dim for Venus. The craters would show more with a faster shutter speed.

In the 2nd photo, 1/2.5 second (ISO 6400) was also too bright and made the crescent too fat but I wanted to show some moon glow. The earthshine showed well.

My real objective was to show a thinner crescent moon side by side with an earthshine image which is not overwhelmed by a thick crescent. That's next month.

Levels was used to enhance the blackness of the background sky and the surface of the moon in the earthshine.
