A Thin Waning Crescent Moon Before Sunrise

I photographed this delicate waning crescent Moon marking the end of Muharram 1448 AH from the United Arab Emirates.

At the time of imaging, the Moon was only 9 degrees above the horizon, appearing as a remarkably thin crescent in the dawn sky. Despite its low altitude, Earthshine softly reveals the Moon’s darkened disk, while several background stars remain visible around the crescent.

This image captures one of the final moments of the lunar cycle before the Moon reaches conjunction with the Sun and a new lunar month begins.
