We built roofs to protect ourselves from the world.
Yet every time I climb above one and look up, I'm reminded of how small I really am.
This photograph was taken on my last night in Doda, Jammu & Kashmir. My cameras had already been packed and shipped. Only my phone remained.
So I laid it on the rooftop, pointed it toward the Milky Way, and let it capture what my eyes had been quietly absorbing all along.
Sometimes the simplest camera is enough, because the photograph was never really about the stars. It was about a fleeting moment when a man stands beneath the universe and remembers how vast it isβand how small the home he has built beneath it.
The photograph belongs to the camera.
The feeling belongs to the sky.
