These two photographs were taken on different days.
On the left: For about an four, the butterfly (Hackberry emperor, Asterocampa_celtis) was slowly moving along a sunlit wall, drinking something. Its extended proboscis is visible against its shadow. These butterflies often land on people and drink human sweat for sodium.
On the right: Another Hackberry emperor butterfly on my hand. Its proboscis is extended, too.
