Scarlet Pimpernel In Deep Salmon Colors
On 06/21/2026 12:12 pm by Cecille Kennedy | Depoe Bay, Oregon
There were small patches of scarlet pimpernel blooming wild on the edge of the small gravelly parking lot. It was noon when I took pictures and I came back before 6:00pm when the light is not too harsh hoping to shoot them in softer light, only to find the flowers asleep already, that is folded close. These tiny flowers are sensitive to atmospheric pressure and sunlight- opening only when the sun is shining and closing in overcast conditions. This habit leads to names such as "shepherd's weather glass". Scarlet pimpernel has a wide variety of flower colors (scarlet, bright blue) but I've seen only deep peach or deep salmon flowers at the coast.
