The Last Sliver
On 06/11/2026 09:04 pm by Cecille Kennedy | Depoe Bay, Oregon
There was a brief green flash just as the setting sun sank into the ocean horizon. The iridescent flash had gold, purple and green hues.
The green flash is an atmospheric optical phenomenon where the very last sliver of the setting sun appears bright green for just a split second. It occurs because Earth's atmosphere acts like a prism, bending and separating sunlight by its wavelengths.
