Spaceweather.com and NASA report: Sunspot 4455 has developed a reversed polarity magnetic field, it is now an "anti-Hale" sunspot. This type of sunspot is typically unstable and can produce strong solar flares.
Solar activity is intensifying today following a strong M9-class solar flare from this anti-Hale sunspot 4455. "Anti-Hale" means the sunspot has a reversed-polarity magnetic field, which makes it unstable and explosive. The CME produced by today's explosion is expected to reach Earth on June 5th, according to a NASA model.
103mm Jagers refractor, Badder Planetarium safety prism, using neutral density and a solar continuum filter, Losmandy GM-8 mount. Cannon 80D camera. 650 FL 12.5 mm eye piece. I am proud of this dedicated solar telescope as I made it myself around a used Jagers objective lens, bought on e-bay that had damaged coatings. A Moon Lite focuser, a Baader Planetarium Herschel Wedge. It has become my favorite telescope for sunspots!
