Deep Narrowband Image of Eagle Nebula (M16)

On 05/16/2026 12:00 am by Tameem Altameemi | Website | Al Qou' - United Arab Emirates

My image of the Eagle Nebula (M16), captured from the skies of the United Arab Emirates.

Located in the constellation Serpens, the Eagle Nebula is a vast star-forming region approximately 7,000 light-years away from Earth. The nebula was discovered by Jean-Philippe de Chéseaux in 1745 and later became one of the most studied nebulae in the night sky due to its active stellar nursery.

At the center of the nebula lies a young open star cluster whose intense radiation shapes the surrounding clouds of gas and dust. The dark structures visible across the nebula are dense regions of interstellar dust where new stars continue to form.

This image was captured using narrowband Hubble Palette (SHO) filters, revealing the complex distribution of ionized hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen gases throughout the nebula.

• Object: Eagle Nebula (M16)
• Distance from Earth: ~7,000 light-years
• Constellation: Serpens
• Apparent magnitude: 6.0
• Type: Emission Nebula / Star-forming Region

A total of 86 exposures were captured with 180-second integrations for a total exposure time of 4 hours and 18 minutes.
