American White Pelicans

What a treat to have these guys back! They're listed as sensitive in the province of Alberta due to their reliance on habitat. The orange discs on the adults' bills are the breeding plumage, and the hook at the tip of the bill helps them handle slippery fish. The pouch—gular sac—can hold up to three gallons of water!
