Anolis lizard in Puerto Rico

On 05/15/2026 05:14 pm by Armando Caussade | Website | San Juan, Puerto Rico

On May 15th I found this lizard, perhaps the same specimen I had previously seen and photographed (see ECP #82544) on May 13th at exactly the same spot in front of my house, descending from the same lighting pole. I then explained that these lizards are plentiful in my area, and that I see then on a daily basis. In an earlier explanation (see ECP #72070) I wrote the following: "This is an Anolis lizard, a genus which is found everywhere in Puerto Rico from coastal plains to mountainous regions. [...] About 10 different species of Anolis are found in the island, all of them endemic. Recent studies have found the Anolis genus of lizards to be a highly adaptable lifeform capable of responding rapidly to environmental change."
