Anolis lizard in Puerto Rico
On 05/13/2026 05:33 pm by Armando Caussade | Website | San Juan, Puerto Rico
Yesterday I found this little friend climbing up a concrete lighting pole, near the sidewalk curb right in front of my house. They plentiful and I see then on a daily basis, but they usually run away from people and seldom I have a chance to photograph them this close. On 2025 I posted a similar image (#72070) to EarthSky Community Photos that included the following description: "This is an Anolis lizard, a genus which is found everywhere in Puerto Rico from coastal plains to mountainous regions. [...] About 10 different species of Anolis are found in the island, all of them endemic. Recent studies have found the Anolis genus of lizards to be a highly adaptable lifeform capable of responding rapidly to environmental change."
