This image is a great way to consider the perspective. Three layers at very different distances to see the night sky in 3d.
1. The foreground stars are at most a few thousand light-years away.
2. 47 Tucanae, the globular cluster in the top right, is 15,000 light-years away.
3. The Small Magellanic Cloud, at 200,000 light-years, is one of the most distant objects visible to the unaided eye.
