The remains of AR 4409 seen in the Cal-K line
On 04/11/2026 09:44 am by Victor Rogus | Website | Sedona, Arizona, USA
Still slightly visible in the Ca-K line we see the remainds of departing sunspot 4409 that has a beta-delta magnetic field and still pose a threat for M-flares.
Calcium K (Ca-K) viewing uses an interference filter to zero in on the wavelength of 393.4 nm. This emission line is one of two that are produced by Calcium just at the edge of the visible spectrum. To these old eyes the sunspot was best viewed at this wavelength, but still very hard to see.
103mm Jagers refractor, with a Lunt B1200 K line filter, Losmandy GM-8 mount. Cannon 60D camera. 650 FL 12.5 mm eyepiece.
