Ihi'ihilauakea Flooded Crater Post Kona Low Storm
On 03/23/2026 11:37 am by Paul C. Peh | Website | Honolulu, HI, USA
This is the first time in my life seeing this normally dry crater filled with water. This is one of the 3 craters situated at Hanauma Bay and it is part of the Koko Head volcanic series. This crater, Ihi'ihi'lauakea, is the ancestral home of a fern called Marsilea villosa, a four leaf clover which can only be found here. It is referenced in ancient Hawaiian stories.
