Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS)

On 03/20/2026 06:06 am by Steven Bellavia | Website | Scottsburg, VA

Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS), from Friday morning, March 20, around 6:00 AM EDT. Taken from Staunton River State Park, during the CHAOS star party. I was surprised how bright it was, and then really surprised it has a visible tail. Its closest approach to the Sun will be on April 19, 2026, and its closest approach to Earth will be around April 26-27, 2026. It might become visible to the naked eye, likely best observed at the end of April or early May, when it will be in the early evening sky.
This makes the 74th comet I have captured so far.
