Iridescent Cloud Formation above Cumulus at Sunset,

On 02/19/2026 05:59 pm by Peter Lowenstein | Website | Mutare, Zimbabwe

As the Sun set in the vicinity of a developing sunset Cumulus near Mutare in the late afternoon of 19th February, vividly colored iridescence developed in a small cloud formation above. The beautiful display which became bird-shaped lasted for about 10 minutes before dispersing as the Sun became concealed beneath lower cloud. The bright colors are caused by very tiny ice crystals or water droplets which cause light to be diffracted out to create a rainbow effect. https://earthsky.org/earth/iridescent-clouds-have-rainbow-colors/
