Lonesome Aleutian Goose

For about a month now this Aleutian cackling goose have been wintering alone in the small harbor. He is usually foraging on the ground weeds and low vegetation. One time I came too close and he flew to the water showing he can fly, not injured as I thought at first. He flew back to the land when a harbor seal swam too close to him. Cackling geese breed off the coast of Alaska on the Aleutian and neighboring islands. Their breeding habitat consists of tundra on grass-covered islands that are inaccessible to mammalian predators. They fly to wintering areas in the Pacific Northwest including the Oregon coast..
