Eratosthenes and the Lunar Apennines
On 12/28/2025 06:41 pm by Roberto Ortu | Website | Cabras, Sardinia, Italy
After imaging the southern part of the Moon with the craters Clavius and Tycho, I also quickly imaged the Apennine Mountains, which are located in the northern hemisphere and form the southeastern edge of Mare Imbrium.
The mountain range is about 600 Km long and the highest peak is Mount Huygens at 5500 metres. On the western edge of the Apennines, the crater Eratosthenes is visible, which has a diameter of almost 60 km.
Transparency was excellent, but seeing was average at the time.
