Geminid Meteors

Cloudy skies parted around 2am, just in time to catch a handful of Geminid meteors before dawn. This composite image includes three hours worth of meteors in one small part of the sky above the Santa Rita Mountains, in southern Arizona. If you look closely, you can see one meteor passing directly beyond the Whipple Observatory on Mt. Hopkins.

Individual meteors were stacked and layered in Photoshop. I also darkened the bottom of the frame to hide light pollution from the valley below.
