Saturn and Titan

On 12/08/2025 07:25 pm by Roberto Ortu | Website | Cabras, Sardinia, Italy

In this image of Saturn, the rings appear almost perfectly edge-on and much darker than in the days around the opposition, and furthermore, the dark dot you see is the Titan satellite transiting the planet's disk. Still above the rings, but near the opposite edge, you can see another much smaller speckle that is probably an artifact, but I checked the ephemeris and the position matches Mimas's shadow at the time of shooting.
The seeing was good, at times excellent, with the planet clearly visible on the PC screen, but the transparency was just enough and unfortunately I had to stop early due to the arrival of fog.
